Holly Golightly Halloween Costume

Holly Golightly Halloween Costume

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I hope everyone is having a fantastically spooky day!

This year I decided to go as Audrey Hepburn/ Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It’s a very simple costume and makeup, and it’s recognizable even if you only see me from the waist up (this is important because my desk at work is behind a window, so people can usually only see me from the waist up).

Also, please excuse my bangs in the photos.  My boyfriend/photographer didn’t inform me that my bangs had gone crazy and my cowlick had a mind of it’s own.   🙂

I’m having a lot of fun with this costume, and I’d love to know what your costume is this year!

Beauty Box 5 October 2013 Review

Beauty Box 5 October 2013 Review

Happy Friday, my friends!  I hope everyone is excited for the weekend – I know I am!  I got this month’s Beauty Box 5, and I’m pretty pleased with it.

Oh, and this is my 50th post!  Woohoo!

**Beauty Box 5 is a monthly beauty subscription box that sends you 4-5 beauty samples ranging from luxury brands to commonly-known brands.  Samples include makeup, hair care, skin care, nail care, fragrances and beauty accessories.  The cost of a Beauty Box 5 subscription is $12/month.**

Goodies received:

La Fresh Travel Lite Facial Cleansing Wipes

Full size = $19.99, Sample value = $3.33

I think La Fresh is probably my favorite facial towelette brand.  It’s very refreshing and doesn’t leave a residue behind.  Also, while I believe this sample is unscented, it still has a pleasant aroma.  It doesn’t stink.

I just wish they weren’t as expensive as they are.

Nubar Glitter Nail Polish in Blondie

Full size = $8.00, Sample value = $4.00

Oct Beauty 133

I thought it was a good nail polish.  The glitter pieces are a small-medium size, compared to the micro-glitter I received previously.  While I did seal the glitter with a clear top coat, I thought the formula was really strong and the glitter was really stuck in there and not going to chip off easily.

The photo above shows three coats of polish.  I had to use a lot.  It was not three thin coats.  They were thick, heavy coats of polish.  But it did dry nicely, and ultimately doesn’t feel like I have a bizarrely thick layer of polish on my nails.

Also, my usually thin and fragile nails feel super strong wearing this polish.  Maybe it’s because I put so many layers on, but I see an incredible improvement.  Like night and day.  It’s very interesting.

I haven’t removed this polish yet, but I’m sure it will be a pain in the butt, just as it ALWAYS is to remove glitter polish.

Swissco Glitter Toe Separators

Full size = $2.00 (received full size)

I usually use toe separators when painting my toes, so these will definitely be used!  They seem nice an sturdy, so that’s great!  My current toe separators are kind of flimsy and malleable, and I’m not sure I like that.

And they add an extra level of fun with all that sparkle!

Model Co Cheek and Lip Tint in Rosy Red

Full size = $22.00, Sample value = $12.57

Oct 2013 Subscription Boxes 099

I was really excited to see this item in my box!  I had heard a lot about it and knew that other people really liked it.  I had one slight problem right off the bat, and that was my little sample tube was not sealed and had leaked a lot of product into the cap, which left the tube nearly empty.  I did contact Beauty Box 5 to see if they could help me out, so we’ll see what they say.

But I did have enough product in the tube to test it out!  I put the product and both my cheeks and lips.

On my cheeks, I thought it created a beautiful rosy flush.  Very natural looking.  And very buildable.

On the lips, it wasn’t as great.  I found it to be very splotchy, so matter how much I added.  And most of the pigmentation settled on the inner parts of my lips, closest to wear my mouth opens.

The tint did last several hours, so that was good.  But that also meant the stain on my finger that applied the tint lasted several hours too!  I think my cheeks held onto the color longer than my lips did.  Oh, also be sure to add a little lip balm – it’s slightly drying on the lips.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion

Full size = $6.99, Sample value = $0.87

I’ve tried Aveeno lotion in the past, but I never end up using it in the long run.  I guess I’m just more of a Jergens or Olay kind of girl.

The Aveeno lotion is thicker than the lotions I currently use, but I wouldn’t call it super thick by any means.  It’s actually a very nice consistency.  Not too creamy, not oily or greasy, not sticky, and definitely moisturizing.

It’s unscented and fragrance free.  But I personally want my lotion, want my lotion to smell sort of fresh.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this product.  It’s great!  It’s just not my preference when it comes to lotion.  I can’t explain it.  We like what we like.

Overall, I was very happy with this box.  Beauty Box 5 tends to send more “practical use” items, and I’m good with that.  It had a decent value this month.  The cost of the box is $12.00, and my total box value was $20.77!

As always, I’m looking forward to next month!
